I was the same - this was a pleasant surprise!

CCRs greatest hits was definitely in the top 3 most-played albums at high school parties I was at. Odd, really, because it’s not like we had some specific great tastes for 20-year-old folk rock.

To clarify, Up Around the Bend is a superior guitar riff to Fortunate Son. Maybe not as epic a song overall but that opening riff is in the Guitar Hall of Fame. (!!)

We’ll resume this argument when Willy & The Poor Boys comes up at #193.

Cosmo’s Factory is what happens when a band is allergic to filler.

Every track lands, but “Run Through the Jungle” is pure cinematic energy: one minute swampy, the next apocalyptic, always unforgettable.

📌 Proof that guitars can summon weather.

Excellent review/retrospective.

My mom loved the California Raisins. She would laugh every time those commercials played. So I got her a California Raisin radio for her birthday one year.

I wrote up this album last year. https://tinyurl.com/ypcucc6y

Great review, Gare. I really enjoyed the storyline, building up to the surprising climax that Long As I Can See The Light is the best song on the album. I wouldn't have offered that if I came into it cold, but I actually can't think of a counter argument. It's soulful, it's croony in a gritty way, and hits growly high notes that are trademark Fogarty. Excellent pick.

Thank you! I think the build up hit me too as I went though the album in order track by track.

When you finally get to Sunshine of Your Love forget the studio recording and listen to the track on Live Cream 2.
