I know a lot of people really like Avalon. For me it is probably the least essential of their albums. The four album run ending with Country Life is the best of Roxy for my money. I suspect this view depends on whether one was starting engagement with music in the 1970’s rather than the 1980’s
Really good point. For Your Pleasure was originally #351 on this list in 2020 and was dropped for SZA’s SOS in a 2023 refresh; similarly, Country Life and Siren were on the original 2003 list but haven’t been seen since. It’s like the 70s output is being diminished when it only gets better. Avalon is their most accessible, but maybe not their best. It’s still really good though!
Big Roxy fan over here in Canada. My only live show? Well it was at the Quebec City Winter Carnival in ummm 1974 or 75? Help. Then their Toronto show in 2022 celebrating a whole bunch of years. 50? Help again.
Then another celebration of Roxy at the Apollo, still on YouTube. And Brian singing on Babylon Berlin’s first season. Or live at the RAH from 1974, released in 2020. Truly amazing.
It's funny how albums remind you of things. As a pre-teen getting into d&d, this album just brings me right back there. Great stuff.
